Dr. Matt Oliva has been a Cure Blindness Project board member since 2007. Oliva plays a crucial role in setting the clinical and programmatic direction of Cure Blindness Project’s outreach in Ethiopia.
Oliva is an Associate Clinical Professor in the Division of International Ophthalmology at Casey Eye Institute and Oregon Health Sciences University. He is also a private practice ophthalmologist in Medford, Oregon.
As a fellowship-trained corneal surgeon, Oliva specializes in surgical and medical treatments of the anterior eye. He completed his ophthalmology residency at the University of Washington and a fellowship in corneal diseases/corneal transplantation/and refractive surgery in Melbourne, Australia, at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital.
Oliva has a special interest in international cataract and corneal blindness and travels several times a year to the Himalayas and Sub-Saharan Africa to perform surgeries and teach resident physicians.
