Samsung Donation Enhances Patient Care in Ghana

Aug 24, 2026 | news |

A donation of Samsung tablets expands a Primary Eye Care training program to ophthalmic nurses in rural Ghana.

Cure Blindness Project is committed to ensuring that patient care remains a priority at every stage of the eye care journey—from primary care through to tertiary (specialty) services. An important part of this commitment is our ability to track patients along their pathway to sight restoration and ensure they receive timely and appropriate care.

Thanks to Samsung’s generous donation of tablets, Cure Blindness Project was able to expand its Primary Eye Care training program to ophthalmic nurses serving district and rural hospitals across Ghana. The tablets, combined with comprehensive training, have equipped healthcare workers with the tools and knowledge needed to accurately diagnose, triage, refer, and follow up with patients requiring eye care services.

Following a week-long training in Accra, participating nurses returned to their respective facilities and immediately began applying their newly acquired skills. The impact of the tablets has been both immediate and significant, helping to improve efficiency, patient management, and continuity of care.

Some of the nurses shared the following reflections:

“The tablets have made data entry easier and more efficient.”
– Constance, Asamankese Government Hospital

“Providing us with the tools to support screening helps save lives through early detection.”
– Phillipa, Kumasi South Hospital

“I am grateful that I can now send reminders to patients who require follow-up care.”
– Gladys, Mamponteng Hospital
