A film by Eric Perlman. Told from patients' point of view, a team of Ethiopian, American and Nepali doctors and staff perform 1,131 cataract surgeries in a single week.
Five blind Ethiopians suffer in darkness---helpless, hopeless and waiting for death. A simple, inexpensive surgery restores their sight in an astonishing moment of transformation. In a single day they return to lives of joyful normality. A year and a half later we return to see how life has changed for the patients, their families and their communities.
