Strong engagement drives successful #GivingTuesdayNow matching campaign
“Great organization! - Can you imagine being blind in today's world?”
This was one donor comment among many shared with HCP during our successful #GivingTuesdayNow campaign on May 5th. Thanks to the generosity of 272 individuals, we raised $74,850 in support of HCP efforts to provide life-saving information, PPE and distance education to our in-country partners. Giving Tuesday Now was a global day of giving and unity created as an emergency response to the unprecedented need caused by COVID-19.
We are grateful to everyone who took the opportunity to have the impact of their contributions doubled through the #GivingTuesdayNow matching campaign. The original matching campaign fund of $25,000 was provided by a dedicated HCP supporter from southern California who offered this perspective:
COVID19 has impacted all. As a physician first responder, it is my job to heal and serve. But perhaps it is more about being an "always" responder that gives us meaning and energizes us. This #GivingTuesdayNow provided an opportunity to share back with our communities in a different way. What an amazing outcome! I would gladly give up a vacation, a concert, a meal out, even a bottle of wine, to know someone will have vision restored.
The generosity of our wonderful matching supporter inspired another important gift to the campaign - an additional $10,000 in matching funds from HCP Co-Founder and Chairman Dr. Geoff Tabin. HCP was well on its way to reaching our original goal of $50,000 when Dr. Tabin contributed the additional matching gift, raising the campaign goal to $70,000. Those following the campaign on GoFundMe and HCP social media responded, meeting Dr. Tabin’s match. We were inspired not only by our community’s outpouring of generosity, but for the show of unity in our shared mission of ending needless cataract blindness. John Ewen, a Vietnam veteran said, “What is especially moving to me is the compassion displayed by Dr. Ruit and his colleagues towards those they serve."
The #GivingTuesdayNow campaign results were strong and positive. By the end of the day, a total of 272 donors contributed $74,850 in support of HCP efforts to provide life-saving information, PPE, and distance education to our in-country partners. We are excited that fifteen contributors were first time donors - Welcome to HCP! To everyone who contributed to our #GivingTuesdayNow campaign’s success amid a time of unique challenges, Thank you!
