GivingTuesday, the global generosity movement, has announced #GivingTuesdayNow, a global day of giving and unity, set to take place on May 5, 2020 as an emergency response to the unprecedented need caused by COVID-19.

Your kindness has transformed the lives of needlessly blind people around the world. Now, during this time of crisis, we hope you will consider a gift to HCP on this day of global giving to ensure the safety of our most vulnerable patients and partners.

COVID-19 has made HCP’s work of changing the arc of global blindness more challenging. The pandemic is truly global, and there are active cases in every country where we work.

HCP’s priority right now is the safety and wellbeing of our implementing partners in Africa and South Asia - the ophthalmic doctors, nurses, technicians and volunteers - who help us provide care to thousands with cataract blindness each year. We are providing readily-accessible information, basic life-saving materials, equipment, and training to get ahead of the virus’ spread and protect their patients and themselves.

Our partners need our help today to stay safe and strong during this crisis. It is vital that we join together as a community in support of our partners’ efforts to minimize the virus’ impact on the fragile populations we serve.

We hope you will consider making a gift to HCP \| CureBlindness on #GivingTuesdayNow, May 5th. Thanks to a generous donor, every gift made to #GivingTuesdayNow will be doubled up to $25,000.

A gift from you on #GivingTuesdayNow will help our partners with the following immediate needs:

  • Essential Information and Life-Saving Strategies. we are equipping our diverse network of partners with essential information on best practices to prevent the spread of the virus, facilitating connection between doctors around the world, and sharing knowledge for working more safely.
  • Protocols for Re-deployed Medical Personnel. Countries have shifted entire medical systems to confront the virus and mitigate its effects. We are supporting our ophthalmic partners who have been asked to respond as frontline health care workers, helping them create protocols to decrease viral transmission.
  • Emergency Shipments of Personal Protective Equipment. Masks, gloves and sanitizer are extremely scarce in African countries. We are utilizing our international connections to source life-saving personal protective equipment (PPE) for our partners.
  • Education and Ophthalmic Equipment. HCP is facilitating tele-education to hone the skills of new partners and mobilizing the shipment of ophthalmic equipment to further extend local capacity to reduce the backlog of needless blindness as the coronavirus crisis subsides.

Thanks to the $25,000 match, the impact of your gift will be doubled.

You may also give today! Gifts made prior to May 5th will also be matched! By making a gift today, you will encourage others to give.

With your help, HCP will respond to the urgent needs of our implementing partners so they may navigate the pandemic and emerge from the crisis ready to resume our ophthalmic work as soon as safety permits.

Thank you again for all you have done for HCP, our partners, and the people we serve. Because of friends like you, we will get through this challenging time and emerge stronger as a global community.
