Admin Chief Reflects on 22 Years at Tilganaga Institute of Ophthalmology

news | Jul 23, 2015

"This is my happiest moment — when a patient can enjoy eye sight."

These are the words of Mr. Bhagirath Baniya, Admin Chief of the Tilganga Institute of Ophthalmology in Nepal. In his 22 years with Tilganga, Baniya has witnessed a great number of wonderful sight-restoring moments.

Baniya is one of the senior-most employees at Tilganga, having served as a member of the team since its inception.

He is one of the first ISO-certified managers in Nepal and has proven to be a great leader for Tilganga. He draws from a wealth of experience, which includes management roles in the Intra Ocular Lens Lab and the Nepal Eye Bank.

From individuals to public policy levels, all have respect toward Tilganga,” says Baniya. “The Tilganga brand has a good image, reputation and strong faith. This is the wealth of achievement in my life."

Of all his experiences at Tilganga over the years, Baniya says his greatest rewards come from the patients. He finds inspiration in those moments when he sees that glow on a person’s face after they have regained their sight.

Baniya believes all the hard work that comes with management is well worth it when someone who has been living in darkness can walk confidently again.

Baniya is very proud of Tilganga's accomplishments. He says that while Tilganga was known at the beginning for its eye treatment service, eye bank and lens lab, it is now famous for its multi-dimensional eye care service, including outreach, research, academics and training.

"Today, the Nepalese people do not feel compelled to go out of country for eye treatment,” he says. “Every specialty service is available at Tilganga.”

“From individuals to public policy levels, all have respect toward Tilganga,” says Baniya. “The Tilganga brand has a good image, reputation and strong faith. This is the wealth of achievement in my life."
