Our Vision

We envision a world in which no person is needlessly blind

Our Mission

Our mission is to cure needless blindness with high-quality, cost-effective eye care in underserved areas of the world

Hcp intro

We partner with local eye health providers to help them build and maintain high-quality eye care in their communities. Through training, equipment and infrastructure support, we cultivate the growth of local, sustainable eye care systems. We focus on areas where the burden of blindness is extremely high, working in over 20 countries throughout South Asia and sub-Saharan Africa.

Globally, 36 million people are blind–half from treatable cataracts

80% of global blindness is preventable with a 10-minute surgery that costs $25 in materials

Growing/aging populations and a shortage of eye care providers contribute to the global backlog of treatable blindness, which will continue to increase without effective solutions

HCP | CureBlindness has 35 implementing partners and a global volunteer network of over 100 collaborators

How We Do It

Our Story

25 years ago, Dr. Sanduk Ruit and Dr. Geoff Tabin started the Himalayan Cataract Project to fulfill their goal to eradicate needless blindness in their lifetime.
